I'm in Smokepoint's New Music Video

I'm in Smokepoint's
New Music Video
"Escape from Braddock Forest"

Escape From Braddock Forest

Published on Feb 28, 2013 by

They saved the best for last, because I don't appear until the end, around the 3:48 mark.

Please watch the whole thing.  Not just because my part won't make much sense if you don't, but because everyone involved did a super job in creating a fun, energetic video.

I auditioned on Friday, Jan. 25 and got the part!

(Obviously! Otherwise this blog post might be chicken jokes or something silly. "Not that there's anything wrong with that!" as Seinfeld might say.)

My part took two days of shooting!

To be clear, they did more than just shoot my part on those two days. But still, I got to enjoy their delicious craft services twice! :o)

All I knew was that I was the neighbor of some girl; and I run in the woods. Thinking about what that might mean made me feel ill. An adult neighbor in the woods with some kid? Ew! Sure, a gig's a gig, but still! Fortunately, the "girl" turned out to be a woman; and the director dispelled my fears, assuring me that I was not portraying Captain Creepy. In fact, the woman watches me; I don't watch her. I don't even know she's there!

We shot the me-stressing-out-in-a-car scene which starts around 3:48 in the video on Wednesday, January 30 at the house of a friend of someone from the production company. The Google Map directions threw me off a bit due to a street having a different name, but once I saw the cars lining the road and the big production truck in the driveway, I knew I'd found the right place.

A neighbor stopped by and asked to speak to whoever lived there, so someone said that the owner wasn't there. The look on the neighbor's face was priceless. Like why are there 30 or so people milling about a house when the owner's not there? That incident made me laugh for a couple of days.

The forest scene was shot on Day 4 of the video shoot, which was Friday February 1. My part in the woods begins around the 4:04 mark in the video.

The above is the only picture of me in the shirt I wear in the video, because it was so cold, I wore a long-sleeve shirt over my T-shirt when I wasn't being filmed.

All I needed to do was looked frightened and then run through a bunch of vines. Only problem was, I was supposed to be running for my life, without running past the golf cart with the film crew! Maybe I'm a method actor, 'cause when I run for my life, I run fast!

I had a blast. Everyone was professional and fun. And I know two days of shooting sounds like a lot of hard work; and it was, for the production people and the other performers, but most of the time I sat around eating and talking to beautiful people.

Smart beautiful people, because they had the good sense to bring jackets, blankets, and/or scarves, whereas I just brought a long-sleeve shirt. One of the performers had seen a Mitch Hedberg show! So I got paid to eat, talk to smart beautiful people, and share Mitch Hedberg jokes! Yes, my life is truly blessed.

To be more accurate, most of the time, I sat around thinking that I shouldn't eat, because I was going to be running. But then I'd get so hungry, I'd think I should eat a little something. The food looked and smelled so good, how could I resist? And so I would eat just a little something. And the food tasted so good, I'd eat just a little something more. And then just a little something more. And then just a little bit more. And then I'd think, okay, that was enough. More than enough. I shouldn't have eaten so much! But then I'd see dark chocolate-covered granola bars and eat some more!

After they shot the footage they wanted, I dashed to Mitchell's Coffee House to perform in the First Friday Show with the ImprovAddicts

The next morning, I went back to NFocus to rehearse for a presentation about Florida Southern College for the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce dinner at The Lakeland Center. That was a busy, but fun, several hours with the video, the show, and the rehearsal. Good times.

Special thanks to Smokepoint for an awesome rocking song, NFocus Visual Communications, Inc. for an excellent production, and the Jess Anderson Talent and Model Agency for getting me the audition!

If Andy Warhol's words are true, about each person getting his/her own 15 minutes of fame, I've easily got another 14 minutes and 50 seconds coming!

All the Best,

P.S.
This first joke below is the joke that started
the whole Mitch Hedberg conversation,
because I looked at a monitor
that showed a shot of the woods
and said the opening line about Bigfoot being blurry.
I then said that was a Mitch Hedberg joke;
and then we started saying his jokes back and forth!

Please Note:
These jokes read much funnier
if you know how Mitch Hedberg sounds.
His delivery is half the comedy,
so if you've never heard him perform before,
you might want to watch the video below first!

Mitch Hedberg
I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem.
It's not the photographer's fault.
Bigfoot is blurry.
And that's extra scary to me,
because there's a large,
out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.
Run. He's fuzzy. Get outta here!

Mitch Hedberg
When we were on acid, we would go into the woods...
'cause when you're in the woods tripping,
there's less likely a chance
you'll run into an authority figure.
But we ran into a bear.
That was even more of a buzzkill.
My friend Dwayne was standing there
raising his right hand,
swearing to help prevent forest fires.
We got away from the bear,
he put his arm around my shoulder, he said
"Mitchell... Smokey is way more intense in person!"

Mitch Hedberg
My sister wanted to be an actress, but she never made it.
She does live in a trailer; she made it half-way.
She's an actress, she just never gets called to the set.

Mitch Hedberg
I called the hotel operator;
and she said, "How can I direct your call?"
I said, "Well, you could say 'Action!';
and I'll begin to dial.
And when I say 'Goodbye',
then you can yell 'Cut!'"

Mitch Hedberg
I wanted to buy a candle holder,
but the store didn't have one.
So I got a cake.

P.P.S.
On March 26 and 28,
please enjoy two of my tributes to Mitch Hedberg.

Remember, You’re Already Beautiful

If I had one message
for the women* of this world,
it would be this:

Remember,
You’re Already Beautiful

Taken at the Feb. 1, 2013 ImprovAddicts show
at Mitchells Coffee House.

Im all for self-improvement.

Hey, if I had something that needed improving;
Id improve it.

Or buy a new one.

But seriously, ...

I feel sorry for all those people,
especially girls and women,
who starve themselves to try to look thinner.

Sadly,
if you dont like yourself when youre not skinny,
you wont like yourself when youre thin either.

What you need to realize is:

Youre already beautiful!

You are.

Absolutely gorgeous!

In one way or another, probably in several ways you dont even realize.

I’m not saying don’t watch what you eat or don’t exercise,
I’m saying:

If you want others to value you,
you must first value yourself.

Once you find the beauty inside yourself,
you can let it shine outside for everyone else.

Learn to love yourself.

If you dont love yourself,
why should anyone else love you?

But even if you don’t love yourself,
you are still loved.

You are loved.

Loved with an eternal, unconditional love.

Consider this:

The amazing Love that created the Universe loves you

You!

Yes, you

Not because of your looks;
not because of your wit;
nor the way you laugh in all the right places,
but because of Who Love Is.

In Love’s eyes, you are already beautiful.

So you don’t have to buy a ton of makeup.

But you should smile.

And give thanks to the Love Who created you.

Remember this maxim?:

God doesnt make junk.

And remember:

You have value. You have beauty. You matter.
Youre important. You are loved.
And you have a purpose.

Never forget how fascinating you are.

Blessings & Joy,

P. S. You’ll never guess what I’m giving up for Lent!
Find out next Wednesday in my post: Happy Ash Wednesday!

P.P.S. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

* This message is for all people. But especially girls and women.

Some of My Miscellaneous Silly Thoughts

Some of My
Miscellaneous Silly Thoughts

If God wanted men to cry,
He wouldve given us tear ducts.

When you contract chicken pox as an adult,
they should call it rooster pox.
Sounds more mature.
And for men,
it sounds much more macho.
“Hey Charlie, I hear you got chicken pox.”
“No way Bob, I got rooster pox!”

Don’t you love how our computers are so polite?
When they stop responding,
they take the time to tell us
that they’re not responding.
If they’ve got the energy and resources
to tell us they’re not responding,
why dont they just use that same energy and resources
to respond?!

A bird in the hand
is worth two in the bush.
Half a bird in the hand?
One in the bush.
... Duhhhh!

Behind every happy man is a woman.
Behind every happy woman is a cabana boy.
Behind every happy cabana boy is a swimming pool.
Ergo, swimming pools make people happy.
Unless they’re above ground.
Cause those just get on everybody’s nerves.
Especially the sucker who cuts the grass.

Some turkey broke my clavicle
and made a wish.

An Eskimo witch
is sure to give you a cold spell.

I wear a tomato-colored coat for a reason.

If you don’t want to play chess anymore,
I’ll just take the pawn
back to the ring shop.

Everyone wants to be God.
Until you realize the hours.

Blessings & Joy,

Enjoy My New Book: Channel Surfing - An Action-Packed Comedy Thriller

Enjoy My New Book:
Channel Surfing
- An Action-Packed Comedy Thriller

Surfer dude Brad is dying to catch a big wave; and he does.

Die, that is.

The big wave catches him.

Paramedics bring him back.

But he doesn’t come back alone.

After sunset, he channels ghosts.

Unable to control the voices blurting out of his mouth, Brad embarrasses himself and others.

Channeling the dead isn’t always as fun as it sounds.

Especially when slain informant Tony hijacks your vocal chords.

Incurring the wrath of those who murdered that rat in the first place.

Detective Rusty hears of Brad’s newfound gift and protects him from thugs Ben and Jerry, who aren't as competent as their crime boss hoped.

Seeking to avenge his partner’s death, Rusty cons Brad into impersonating the informant on the stand.

With danger all around, Tony double-crosses Brad too.

Whats a channeling surfer to do?

About 98 pages.  Only $2.99 in Kindle; and $6.95 in print.

Action, excitement, and laughter abound in this comedy thriller, which also includes romance and mystery, to provide something fun for everyone.

I hope you have as much fun reading “Channel Surfing” as I did writing it, creating a fun assortment of characters, even the minor ones like Madame Tatiana and Renfroe.

Clean language. I’d rate it PG-13, because of the crime and shootouts.

Please let me know what you like best.

Many thanks.

Blessings & Joy,

When Did Saturday Morning Cartoons Get to Be So Silly?

When Did
Saturday Morning Cartoons
Get to Be So Silly?

Although I was up late the night before, having performed with the ImprovAddicts, Saturday morning, I woke up early, not by choice, I just did.

Since I was up, I watched “Star Watch” to get the latest scoop on the latest movies.

Somehow, from there, I wound up watching cartoons.

When Did Saturday Morning Cartoons Get to Be So Silly?

I.e., The Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy*.

I guess it wouldn’t be as stupid, if they were at least real superheroes.

But they’re not.

They’re fantasy. Make-believe. And kind of hokey.

Science fiction, without the science.

Not realistic, like Superman, Spider-Man, and Batman

Bat-Mite and Robin don’t count.

The jury’s still out on Aquaman and the Wonder Twins

Maybe if the Twins didn’t have that goofy monkey

Or if the goofy monkey could shoot lasers from its eyes.

Sadly, Iron Man Armored Adventures turned out to be stupid too.

I didn’t know it was about a teenage Iron Man

Let’s call him Iron Kiddo

A team of black ops, a.k.a. highly trained special forces, chase high school student Pepper and fire a slew of automatic weapons at her, but they miss!

Even though she’s running down the middle of the street; and they shoot a barrage of bullets.

Even when she’s standing a few feet in front them!

But as soon as Iron Kiddo stands in front of her, the bullets ricochet off his armor.

In other words, the so-called highly trained special forces couldn’t hit their target, until the target was Iron Kiddo

Silly!

Super silly?

Iron silly!

Okay, it was still a fun episode, but that part was totally silly!

What happened to cartoons that weren’t stupid and silly?

Cartoons that were realistic and made sense.

Like being born in a galaxy with a red sun and being rocketed to a planet with a yellow sun endows you with super powers far beyond those of mere mortal men.

Or a radioactive-spider bite gives you the proportionate strength and abilities of an arachnid.

The only silly part being:

If spiders do have spider sense, why are they so easy to squash?

Being a mega-rich orphan bent on revenge can help you finance the creation of cool gadgets with a flying nocturnal mammal theme, even if you can’t fly.

The only silly parts being:

The aforementioned Bat-Mite and Robin

Nowadays though, most cartoons are silly and stupid.

It’s almost as if they’re designed for little kids.

Blessings & Joy,

* Okay. Technically speaking, The Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy isnt even a cartoon. Its live action. And the only reason I watched it? The opening credits showed: Cerina Vincent! But she didnt even appear in the episode I watched. Argh! Foiled again! Or maybe she did, but I didnt recognize her. Sadness, sorrow, regret, ... I may need a Sanity Check!

Coming Friday: Sanity Check: Pass Or Fail?
